SOLICITOR SOLD
Mr G. J. Barton Purchaser (HZ. Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 8. Solicitor, an unraced halfbrother to the Cromwell Centennial Gold Cup winner, Royal Chant, has been purchased by the well-known Dunedin racing man, Mr G. J. Barton, for 700gns. The three-year-old gelding by Underwood from the Solicitor General mare, Kelenaa, Solicitor is to have his first start in the Trial Stakes at the Otago Hunt meeting on Saturday. Mr Barton is a steward of the club.
Mr Barton usually buys his horses as yearlings at the Trentham sales. Solicitor was bred by Mr G. E. Dundass, of Central Otago, and educated by D. G. O’Neill, who trains for Mr Barton. Solicitor is also a halfbrother to Chief General, one of the two New Zealand horses purchased by '‘Hollywood” George Edser, the Sydney punter. They were impounded on their arrival in Sydney by the Sheriff of New South Wales, acting for the Commonwealth Taxation Department. Chief General was later sold for 1200gns.
