Winchester Show Attracts Record Entries

A wealth at stock and farming products was displayed at the annual show held by the Temuka and Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association at Winchester on Saturday. The day was fine and attracted a large attendance of the public and entries were a record. In declaring the show open, the Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard) said that over the last 20 years this district had probably increased its production more than any other in the country. He congratulated the show officials.

The president of the association (Mr H. H. Hewson) said it was pleasing to know that both entries and the public attendance exceeded those of last year and he thanked his committee and all who had assisted.

Entries this year were 2713 compare with 2409 last show and the gate - takings amounted to £422 as compared with £309 the previous year. A good indication of the high quality of stock in the show was evident in the grand parade headed by the Temuka Highland Pipe Band and the president and the Minister. From the various comments of judges at the show, the stock and produce came forward well prepared and in good condition, and the champion awards would have held their own at much larger shows.
