Tom Foolum Wins At Hawera

The Wanganui-trained gelding, Tom Foolum. 9/9 in the betting, caused a minor upset w-hen lie headed the field home in the Waimate Handicap, second leg of the T A B double on the last day of the Egmont Racing Club's summer meeting at Hawera on Saturday. Tom Foolum paid £32 4s 6d for a win. and with Cattle, winner of the Tonks Stakes, returned a double dividend of £197 ts 6d for £1 The track was firm and fast. but conditions were unpleasant with high humidity, a strong northerly wind and occasional light showers which barely dampened the grass. The attendance under the conditions was good, and the totalisator handled £10.777, compared with £47.055 10s on the second day of last year’s summer meeting.
