Comment By Coach Next target for Miss M. A. M. Chamberlain, after her record-breaking near-win at Perth, is to break the twominute half-mile, according to her coach. Mr V. Briedis. of Christchurch. Formerly a prominent European athlete, Mr Briedis says: "This is a wonderful performance, and I am confident that Marise can run the twominute half at Perth next year. It is logical that she should do this judging from her improvement over the last year when she has improved her time for the halfmile by 10 seconds, the equivalent of about 80 yards in a half-mile." He said that the 25-year-old Miss Chamberlain should come to her peak performance at the Tokyo Olympics when, with Miss Willis, she may well dominate the world field of middle distance performances. Mr Briedis has coached Miss Chamberlain since 1053. Miss Chamberlain is expected back in New Zealand on Saturday and will compete in the New Zealand athletic championships starting at Auckland on March 9. Asked about her potential at Auckland, Mr Briedis said: "It will be the same. There is no competition and she will have to go alone.” Meanwhile, Miss Chamberlain will continue to train at the Technical club grounds at Ensors road, running in largely against men teammates to give her the speed training she needs.
