Regular Matches Suggested

A meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Football Association heard Mr R Clarke, of the Auckland Football Association, put forward suggestions for the holding of regular matches between the two provinces.

The Auckland team would be travelling to Dunedin on Queen’s Birthday week-end to play Otago, said Mr Clarke, and would welcome a match with Canterbury over the same week-end. He suggested tha* an annual match, to be played in Christchurch this season and in Auckland next season, to be held with a guarantee by each association of £l2O a match. The chairman of the Can terbury association, Mr J. Smith, said that local football was now at the stage where such an interchange of visits should be considered. He suggested matches in Christchurch, Timaru and on the West Coast some time in Septem ber and also asked Canterbury to consider sending such a team north.
