RACING MR W. L. PATERSON FOR UNITED STATES
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. Mr W. L. Paterson, chief auctioneer in the bloodstock department of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., has resigned to take up an appointment with Mr G. G. Jamieson, proprietor of the Rancho Del Charro in Pleasanton, California. Mr Paterson, who will
leave New Zealand in April, will be stud manager at the Rancho Del Charro. Two years ago Mr Jamieson purchased the stallion Khorassan at a New Zealand record figure from the Trelawney Stud at Cambridge and last month also secured Marco Polo H from the same establishment.
He gave the New Zealand record price of 7000 gns for Tulloch’s Sister at the 1901 yearling sales and last month purchased a yearling filly and a brood mare at the Trentham sales. While here Mr Jamieson showed keen interest in expanding the horse trade between New Zealand and the United States and he is playing a practical part in helping to get New Zealand lines of blood established in America. Mr Paterson has been attached to the bloodstock department of Wright, Stephenson’s for 14 years and he acted as senior auctioneer at the National Yearling Sales since the retirement of the late Mr C. E. Robertson in 1955. Before joining Wright, Stephenson's, Mr Paterson was with the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company and Vercoe and Company, in Hamilton.
