CHAIN FOB MAYORESS

The Christchurch branch of the Nataonel Council of Women will open a private appeal to the women of Christchurch to subscribe for a chain of office for the Mayoress. Christchurch was the only major city in New Zealand that did not have a chain for the Mayoress and it was felt that it would be a fitting gesture if the women of Christchurch should make such a presentation, a meeting of the branch was told last evening.

It was hoped to be able to have the chain ready for presentation before October and it was essential that work should begin as soon as possible. the president of the Christchurch branch (Mrs W. Grant) said. The cost of the chain would be about £l3O and it was hoped to be able to incorporate the city’s coat of arms in the design. Donations would be received by the treasurer (Mrs L. L OtteMi and the secretary (Miss S. Lilly).
