Nelson Court Registrar To Resign Many Posts

Mr T. M. Brooks, who holds an unusually large number of public appointments in his office of Registrar of the Supreme Court in Nelson, plans to retire about June this year after more than 40 years’ service with the Justice Department. As well as being Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr Brooks holds the position of Registrar of tbe Magistrate’s Court, Nelson, registrar , of the Land Valuation Court, clerk of awards, official assignee in bankruptcy, clerk of the Licensing Committee, clerk of the Warden’s Court, mining registrar, receiver of gold revenue, registrar of births, marriages and deaths, registrar of electors, returning officer, registrar of the Compensation Court, and Registrar of the Magistrate’s Court. Motueka. Mr Brooks has held these positions since his transfer to Nelson from Invercargill in November 1958. He was born in Lawrence, Central Otago, and joined the Justice Department at Stratford in 1919 He was later appointed clerk of the Supreme and Magistrate’s Courts in New Plymouth and

from 1926 to 1935 be was a clerk of the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch. Mr Brooks, later served terms as clerk of courts in Stratford, Queenstown, and Taihape before doing military service in World War 11. After the war he was clerk of courts in Napier and New Plymouth, and in 1950 was appointed Registrar of the Magistrate's and Warden's Courts in Hokitika. He was made DeputyRegistrar of the ’ Supreme Court in Invercargill in June. 1952, and held this position until taking up his many appointments in Nelson.
