Polluted Bathing ' Water

Sir, —At the southern end of the Waimakariri bridge on the Main North road is a stretch of shallow water in which, on warm days at week-ends and holidays, are to be seen numbers of children and adults bathing and: paddling. There is a grave danger to health here. Most of the water from greasetraps -and household use enters this water from Belfast. and it positively stinks. I would suggest the Health Department look into this' and take steps accordingly by erecting notices. —Yours, etc., COMMON SENSE, j February 8, 1962. [The Medical Officer of' Health (Dr. L. F. Jepson) I said: “The Christchurch I Drainage Board is undertak-l ing investigations into sew-1 age disposal in this area. Normally the Waimakariri' has a very big flow, but dry summer conditions have led to this problem.”]
