Scotland today scored its first Rugby Union victory over Wales at Cardiff Arms Park for 35 years, winning >y 8 points to 3 The Scottish pack was quicker in the loose and generally claimed the advantage from the line-outs. The speedy Welsh three-quarters were tightly held by a firstclass defence
This great pack was the most powerful factor in Scotland’s victory. Ken Scotia d’s display at full-back for Scotland could scarcely have been bettered He was especially impressive against the wind in the second half The threequarters with limited chances in attack, all did their bes' work in defence
The young Welsh threequarters tried hard, but tn the wet and windy conditions and against such covering. they did not look like saving the match As in the drawn match against England at Twickenham. Wales’s place-kicking failed The full-back missed three attempts at penalty goals Scotland won the match before the interval, when it had the wind at its back
R J Glasgow, at 31 the oldest man in tho match opened the scoring after 15 minutes
The Scottish ck shoved the Welsh forwards yards back and Glasgow got over in the corner for a try. Three minutes from the end Alan Rees drop-kicked a goal which gaves Wales its only points.
