NELSON RAILWAY CENTENARY
The centenary of New eZaland’s first railway, the Dun Mountain railway of Nelson, will be marked by the unvdhing of a memorial plaque in Brook street, Nelson, on February 3. A field trip for railway enthusiasts along the abondoned line has been organised by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society for February 4. The memorial plaque was provided by the Nelson regional committee of the national Historic places Trust. It was erected by th? Minis, try of Works near the City Council quarry, where the ceremony opening the railway was performed on February 3. 1862. The railway was abandoned in 1872.
