WOOL PRICES FIRM AT WELLINGTON

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, January 29. The market was fully firm on recent rates on the first day of the January wool sale at Wellington today, with most descriptions in sellers’ favour, states the official report.

An offering of 25,300 bales, submitted to a full and representative bench of buyers, generally was not up to the usual standard for the January sale. The unfavourable weather before shearing had its effect on the clip, 'many lines being faulted with dust. The bulk of the offering was mainly average and good top making with a larger proportion than usual of short carding fleece. Competition was keen, the principal buyers being the Continental section, with Bradford, U.S.A. and Japan giving support on lines suitable for their requirements.
