LORD EUSTON’S VISIT
British Council Lecture Tour
The chairman of Britain’s Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Lord Euston, will arrive in New Zealand on February 1 for a lecture tour sponsored by the British Council. In Wellington and Auckland, Lord Euston will meet members of the National Historic Places Trust, and tour centres where there are local committees of the trust as well as give lectures illustrated by slides. Other places he hopes to visit are Bulls, New Plymouth. Dunedin, Timaru, Hamilton. Whangarei, and Christchurch. Apart from visiting historic sites he will attend the ceremony to commemorate the signing of the Treaty at Waitangi. During the first part of his tour he will be accompanied by the chairman of the National Historic Places Trust (Mr Ormond Wilson). Lord Euston is a member of the Historic Buildings Council for England and a trustee of London Museum. In the course of his trip he will talk on the National Trust and the preservation of ancient buildings. From Eton and Magdalene, Cambridge, Lord Euston entered the Grenadier Guards, reaching the rank of captain. From 1943 to 1947 he was aide-de-camp to the Viceroy of India. In 1963 he became a member of the Historic Buildings Council for England. He is also a member of the advisory com. mittee to the Minister of Housing and Local Government, the Cathedrals Advisory Committee, and the Historic Churches Preservation Trust.
