Croquet Ross, Middlemiss Taken To Three Games
Two highly-fancied players in the men’s singles, A. G. F. Ross (Hastings) and L. Middtermss (Pukekohe). were taken to three games when the New Zealand croquet tournament continued in windy conditions on the Fendaitoo and United lawns yesterday. In the first I round of the men’s chemI pionship. H. Ford (Wellington) lost his third game to Middlemiss by only two points, and after a close call with T. Regan (Wellington), Ross won his game in the second round easily when he beat J. Hunter (Papakura). 26-6, ’26-10. In the women’s championship, Mrs E. Todd (Christchurch) joined Mrs W. L. Martin (Christchurch) as the only unbeaten players, and in the doubles Mrs E. Brosnahan (Wellington) and F. Glass (Auckland) and Mrs B. E. Jarden and G. National Junior Tournament
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 22. C. Crosby (Napier) 'nd Mrs F. Cole 'Auckland.' turned the tables on Mes dames P. Millner (Claudelands) and R. Bllck (Auck land) in an interesting championship doubles match in the national junior croquet tournament today. Two days earlier, Mesdames Millner and Blick beat Crosby and Mrs Cole. The final of the champion ships doubles will be played tomorrow and the championship singles will be continued.
