More Apprentices Studying

The number of apprentices taking block technical courses almost doubled between 1956 and 1961. according to figures just released by the Labour Department.

In 1956, 3580 apprentices took block courses, in 1961. 7025—an increase of 96 per cent. In the same period those taking evening classes rose by 20 per cent., from 3739 to 4500 and those attending day classes dropped by 14 ner cent, from 3494 to 3016. Figures for the Technical Correspondence School showed a 100 per cent, increase from 1515 to 3041. The biggest enrolments were for motor mechanics, where 454 were enrolled in day classes. 1404 in block courses. 1470 in evening classes and 524 in correspondence courses. Carpentry and joinery had the next biggest numbers last year, and the biesest in block courses—--2843

Altogether there were 25 different classes of courses
