A safe, containing about £l7O, a cheque book and documents, was stolen from the premises of Christchurch Wools. Ltd., Main South road, Templeton, on Sunday night. The thieves used a wheelbarrow to cart the safe to a side door.
The safe was found to be missing when the woolstore was opened for business yesterday morning. The managing-director of the firm (Mr L. E. Franklin) said neighbours heards dogs barking about 11.15 p.m. on Sunday but did not investigate. “The safe was taken from the office in the main building. The thieves got in through a side door and then smashed the office door lock." Mr Franklin said.
“It appears that they loaded the safe on to a wheelbarrow and then pushed it to the side door I suppose they parked a vehicle right at the door. The barrow was left by the door,” said Mr Franklin
Nothing else was stolen The safe was 2ft 6in high by 2ft. The contents were insured.
