£150 BROOCH RETURNED
Woman Lost It Two Years Ago
(N.Z Press Association/ AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. A diamond brooch valued at £l5O which was lost in Queen street, Auckland, by a Wellington woman in August, 1959, has been returned to the owner by the police. “It could only happen in New Zealand,” said the owner . Mrs M. Bences, of 4 Kio crescent, Hataitai, in a telephone interview tonight. Mrs Bences came to the Dominion from Hungary in 1956 at the time of the national uprising against Russian domination.
“I am very, very pleased,” she said. “It was my mother’s and has much sentimental value.” The brooch was found in the same month that it was Lost by Mr R. G. Philpot, of
Thinking it was of little value he took it home and placed it in a drawer. Last September friends advised Mr Philpot to have it valued, which he did.
He notified the police, who by checking through their records found that Mrs Bences had reported a brooch missing about the time Mr Philpot said he found it.
