REPAIR OF DUMPERS

Three Working On Tunnel Three of the seven 15-lon dumpers working on the Christchurch-Lyttelton road tunnel project were in acLon again yesterday. Work on the project almost came to a halt on Tuesday when only one of the dumpers was operating. Twelve of the 20 mechanics employed by the contractors were working on damaged machines yesterday and by the afternoon two were repaired and back in work. Late last nigbt the mechanics were still working on a fourth dumper, but it was not expected to be ready for the late Shift’s operations It is hoped to have it working today. An Australian representative of the firm which produces the dumpers arrived in Christchurch yesterday to help get the other three dumpers, which have had clutch trouble, beck into operation. It is not known how long this will take.
