BOATS LOST IN FLOOD
Hutt River Aftermath (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. Owners of boats at the mouth of the Hutt river today restored some order to the chaos caused by the week-end's destructive” flooding of the normally serene estuary. The river’s Saturday nightSunday morning toll was one boat sunk, one missing and two jetties demolished. Awaiting salvage beyond the river-mouth bar is the launch Colleen, the cabin of which was washed up on Petone beach yesterday afternoon. The missing craft. Tania, whi was riding safely at her mooring late on Saturday night, had disappeared by early yesterday morning and has not been traced.
One jetty was torn away from the bank and carried out to sea. The battered remains of th • other were manoeuvred into the bank and salvaged today.
