SECOND-SHEAR WOOL DOWN 2d PER LB

(Neto Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, January 15.

Prices dropped by 2d a pound for secondshear wool compared with November and last January, and by Ud to 3d a pound for fleece wools on a buyers’ market at the second Auckland wool sale of the season today.

Compared with last week’s sale at Wanganui, the market for extra and fine crossbreds was in sellers’ favour. Other wools were rather erratic but overall showed little change in price. Quality lines were in keen demand and sold well, but prices for short fleeces and second-shear were irregular. The limited quantity of quality wool offered tended to make the sale erratic. Continental buyers were the most active and America bought most of the secondshear wooL Bradford topmakers were on the lookout for good length combing wool but the offerings generally were lacking in length. Japan confined itself to specialty types of Southdown and Cheviot wools, the only types it is buying at the present time. Official Report

The official report says three catalogues containing 29.061 bales of new season’s greasy wool were submitted to auction. This offering contained principally ewe and wether wools with some shorn hoggets, some lambs wool, a fair proportion of second-shear and the usual oddments.

The wool generally opened up on a per with January offerings but showing more dust than usual following dry conditions in the spring and early summer. Yellow disclouration following wet winter conditions was also in evidence in some lines. Brands and heavy raddle marks were also in evidence in some lines and this is causing concern in the trade. It was not possible to obtain a bid on some heavily branded tines.
