20 Taking Course At Lincoln
More students than ever before will take the diploma of horticulture course at Lincoln College this year. Nine students will today begin the two-year course for the diploma, which was inaugurated in 1945. Another 11 will return to begin their second-year studies at the end of February. A two weeks’ course for horticultural apprentices will begin at the college on January 30. It is sponsored by the Labour Department for apprentices who work mainly for nurseries and parks and reserves departments. Most of the apprentices who will attend this course come from the North Island. They number about 12. The course will include instruction in soil fertility, mineral deficiencies. plant propagation developments, nursery management, pruning, pest and disease control, glasshouse construction and heating and soil sterilisation.
