Still No Rain In Hawke’s Bay
(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, Jan. 11. Less than an inch of rain has fallen in most parts of Hawke's Bay in the last week and has done nothing to relieve drought-stricken pastures. Farmers who are in the position to do so are relying more and more on artificial irrigation, waterholes—which are fast drying up and artificial feeding including the branches of willow trees. Hay is being brought from outside growing areas and sold at high prices. Drought conditions, hitherto at their most severe in coastal districts, are now showing up increasingly further inland.
