H. Ford Wins Men’s Title (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, January 10. H. Ford (Wellington), having retained both lives today, won the men’s title in the, South Island croquet tournament being played at Timaru. The run-ner-up will be decided by a play-off between A. E. Saalfield (New South Wales) and W. B. C. Paynter (Lower Hutt). Mrs B. A. Jarden (Lower Hutt) won the final of the first life in the women’s championship. Results:— Championships Open.—-Quarter-filial*: Mrs H. Dempsey (Waimate) beat Mrs A Bonar (Christchurch), 28-14, 28-18; W B. C. Paynter (Lower Hutt) beat Mrs W. Walker (Timaru). 28-23, 26-90. Men.—First life, final: H. Ford (Wellington) beat A. E. Saalfield (New South Wales), Women.—First life, final: Mrs B. A. Jarden (Lower Hutt) beat Mrs L. Hight (Morrinsvllle), 2624, Doubles.—First life, semi-final: L. Middlemiss and Mrs L. Mlddlemies (Pukekohe) beat Mrs W. Salton and Mrs L. Restal (Oamaru), 26-22. Second life, final: Ford and Mrs A. G. Rawlinson (Methven) beat Middlemiss and Mrs Middlemiss, 26Level Singles Second life, semi-final: G. Broadhead (T.) beat A. J. Bonisch (Gore), 26-12. Final: Broadhead beat Mrs E. Restall, 26-17.
