Hotel’s Busy Last Day
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, January 8. The Metropolitan Hotel in Queen street. Auckland, was probably busier this morning than it has even been since its opening.
Hundreds of people made their way to the hotel for a last drink before it closed down at lunchtime.
The hotel has been on the corner of Queen and Durham streets for 66 years and is to be demolished to make way for the new 190 ft 16-storey Norwich Union Life Insurance building.
