Children And Plastic Bams

Sir, —May I warn parents about small children and plastic bags. A tragedy was averted this week-end at one of our beaches. A toddler was given a plastic bag to fill with sand which he immediately emptied on his head and made a space man of himself with the bag. The combination of sand and plastic bag is too horrible to contemplate. Surely warnings enough have been issued to parents on the danger of these bags. If there are children in the house all plastic bags, both large and small, should find a hiding place known only to mother and they should be used with the utmost discretion. They have many uses but they are also number one killers in the hands of tiny children Yours, etc., CHILD LOVER, CHRISTCHURCH. January 8, 1962.
