Two Teams In Lead

(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI. January 4. After another day of excitement in the John Lennon trophy inter-club softball tournament at Wanganui today, two teams share the lead They are the holder. Miramar (Wellington> and Ramblers (Auckland). Both have met with one defeat. Their nearest rivals are Railways (Hutt Valley) and Bears (Auckland) each with two iosses Miramar enjoyed two comfortable victories today, including a 6-1 win over the well-per-formed Braves of Wanganui. Ramblers however required two extra innings in which to beat Naenae This was a thrilling encounter, with Ramblers looking the better team, but not clinching victory until B Sorenson’s home run on errors in the ninth innings. Naenae took part in another feature game when it beat Bears 4-1 Naenae fully deserved its win, having called the tune in most departments. Broadways hopes received a further setback when it lost 2-3 to Braves The Wanganui club’s success was mainly due to the superior Ditching of C Phillips and better batting and excellent catching by the outsiders. The weather was fine but the wind made for tricky conditions Braves handled the conditions more completely than Broadway which seldom shaped ’ike a good team The standings after eight rounds are:—Miramar and Ramblers 6 wins. 1 loss. Railwavs and Bears. 5 2: Naenae 5 3: Huntly. 4,4; Braves, 3. 4: Dodgers 2,5; United. 7 losses: Ohakea. 8 losses.
