CAR DROPS 100ft

Fatal Accident In Buller Gorge

(N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT. Jan. 5.

A young man was killed when the car in wriich he was a passenger rolled down a 100 ft bank near Lyell in the Upper Buller Gorge last evening. Four other persons in the car received minor injuries. The man killed was:

Leon Francis Holt, aged 21, of 56 Surrey street, Dunedin.

The car, driven by Andrew Walter Ballantyne. of 44 Pippin street, Dunedin, failed to negotiate a bend three miles east of Lyell on the Murchison-Westport main highway. Mr BaUamtyne and the three other passengers received cuts and minor abrasion®. They were attended by Dr. G. Bowren, of Murchison.

The three other passengers were William Benjamin Parsons, aged 17, of 46 Gilmerton street, Dunedin, Dougtes Michael Carnahan, aged 18, of 36 Oxford street. Dunedin, and Graham John McKerrow, aged 18, of 128 Forfar street, Dunedin. The accident occurred on a narrow winding section of the road known as Dublin terrace. Several mishaps have occurred on this road in recent months but this was the first fatal accident on this section for many years.
