TERRITORIAL CAMPS
785 To Attend First
Seven hundred and eightyfive officers and men of the Territorial Force will take part in the first of the series of annual camps to be held at 'urnham Military Camp and Tekapo. The first camp will begin on Saturday and end on January 19. The first camp will be a composite group from the Ist Battalion, Otago - Southland Regiment, with units from the Ist Battalion, Canterbury Regiment. Also taking part will be the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Brigade and of the Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast Regiment, the 3rd Transport Company, the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps, and the 3rd Infantry Workshops. The camp will be divided into two parts. At Burnham from January 6 to January 12 the emphasis will be on basic training to help to train non-commis-sioned officers to take part in the training of the first intake of national servicemen this year. From January 13 to 17 the men will take part in field exercises at Tekapo. There will ba an organised movement to Tekapo, and there the forces will take part in an exercise simulating an advance to engage the enemy and then a withdrawal with emphasis on company delaying tactics. While the forces are at Tekapo the Royal New Zealand Air Force will take part in the exercise on two days. Bristol Freighters will drop one day’s supplies to the men in the field, and Harvards will act as enemy aircraft. The next South Island camp will begin on January 22, when the 3rd Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery.i will go into camp at Burnham. then exercise at Tekapo. Other South Island Territorial units which will take part in exercises are the A and C squadrons of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, which will camp at Linton from January 6. to January 19. Also at Linton will be the 3rd Field Squadron, Royal New Zealand Engineers, and the 3rd Infantry Brigade’s signals squadron.
