NELSON WELL AHEAD IN HAWKE CUP GAME

NELSON, December 26 Nelson took a commanding first innings lead of 283 over the challengers, Thames Valley, on the second day of the Hawke Cup cricket match at Nelson today. Replying to Thames Valley’s total of 142. Nelson scored 425 in 442 minutes. L B. Leggat was top scorer with 114, taking his total in Hawke Cup matches to more than 1000. and another of Nelson’s six Central Districts’ players. L B. Reade, showed fine form ip scoring 60. B Carey (57 not out) and R Leeds (27) added 87 in an hour in a sparkling last-wicket partnership. The former Otago, Canterbury and Northern Districts spinner. G. D. Alabaster, bowled 61 overs to take two for 144 and D D. Beard finished with three for 101 off 50 overs. In its second innings Thames Valley was 14 for no wickets at stumps. Scores:—
