Fast Scoring In Brabin Tournament

AUCKLAND, December 26 The annual preview of Plunket Shield cricket teams of fu’ ire years, which the Brabin Cup competition for players below the age of 20 virtually is, left an indelible impression when the tournament opened at Eden Park, Auckland, today that the young New Zealand batsmen are both prepared and equipped to hit the ball hard. The two matches today between Auckland and Wellington, and Otago and Canterbury, each produced more than 400 runs in little more than six hours’ play. The conditions for batsmen were ideal, both pitches being firm and of easy pace with a fast, sunburned outfield to speed the ball on its way It is certain however, that the spirited batting would have been the same in other conditions, for strokes of power to all points of the compass were the order of the day Scores: Auckland v.
