AVERILL HOUSE HOSPITAL

Extension Opened

Institutions such as Averill House Hospital for aged persons were an asset to the city, as they provided for its senior citizens and also kept them close to their families, said Dr L. C. L. Averill, when he formally opened new extensions to the hospital yesterday. Many such institutions were unfortunately away from the citv, he said. Dr. Averill, son of Archbishop Averill, after whom the hospital was named, congratulated the matron and staff on their work, which was becoming of increasing consequence, he said. “When the hospital was opened I thought we would have difficulty keeping it full.’’ said the matron (Miss M Herrick) The need for expansion, however, had been consistent, and although the next extension was just completed another was being begun. Miss Herrick said.

The extension consists of four bedrooms, a dining hall for 30 persons and a large sitting room Miss Herrick thanked the women's committee of the Nurse Maude Association which was responsible for furnishing the extension, and a presentation was made to Miss M. Corkill who, until her recent retirement, was supervisor of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association
