PARTY FOR BLIND
Support From Penny-Pile For the first time a Christmas party for blind children, their brothers and sisters, was held in the grounds of the Christchurch headauarters of the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind in Bristol street, on Saturday About 40 attended. The idea to hold a party specially for blind children originated from the recentlyformed parents’ committee Practical support came from Mr L. Hanke, who organised a penny-pile at Lyttelton which was generously con tribo ‘ed to by seamen, waterside workers, and others to provide the children with Christmas gifts and to defray corts of the party. Guests were received by Mr G. F C. Ashdowne, manager of the Christchurch branch of the foundation, and Mrs Ashdowne. Soeciallvinvited guests included Mr H. J. Walker, M.P., and Mrs Walker. Mr R. J. Hore, chairman of the parents’ committee, extended Christmas greetings tn the guests and thanked staff members for their help. A programme for the children included donkey rides, entertainment by a clown, a visit from Santa Claus and a "fairy queen ”
