JOCKEY OCT FOR LIFE

Used Battery In Whip (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 17. A New South Wales jockey. R. McLucas, was disqualified for life by the Newcastle Jockey Club at Newcastle yesterday for using a battery. McLucas had a battery in his whip when he went to the post to ride Golden Emperor in the First Novice Handicap, second division. A steward. Mr R. Dawbarn, drove to the barrier in a car and ordered McLucas to dismount and accompany him. Mr Dawbarn took McLucas's whip and returned to the enclosure with McLucas in his car. Mr Dawbam ordered the trainer. W. Kent, to give the mount to B Moon. Golden Emperor, •which had been heavily backed from 6/1 to 2/1 favouritism, won the race from Vitesse by three lengths, with Bushland three-quarters of a length away third. McLucas said he had used the whip in two races before he took it to the barrier. McLucas who is 28, has been riding for 11 years in country areas.
