SKIN-DIVER DROWNED
Youth Dies At Timaru (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Dec. 17. Efforts by doctors and St. John Ambulance men to revive a youtih who was drowned in the Timaru Harbour alongside the north mole about 3.15 p.m. today, were unsuccessful. The youth was: Keith- Thomas Champion, aged 15, of 96 High street, Timaru. Assistance was also given by the police, and the Timaru Fire Brigade stood by with a second resuscitator. The youth, who wore skindiving equipment consisting of gas bottles, weights, flippers. and mask, was diving in about 25ft of water opposite the Marine parade store. The St. John ambulance was called, and the youth was raised only after a second attempt by another skindiver, Mr J. L, Finlay, club captain of the South Canterbury Sub-Aqua Club. Dr. J. L. Mclver and Dr. M. Brookfield assisted, and a resuscitator was used for 15 minutes. However, the youth, whose position had been indicated by bubbles on the surface, had been under water for about half an hour.
