THE TWIST

Introduction By 66 Miss NZ." “Just twist, with movement confined to hips and arms.” was how “Miss New Zealand'’ (Miss Leone Main) described the twist, the dance craze which has swept America and Europe, yesterday. Miss Main was in Christchurch for a few minutes on her way to Dunedin, where she will introduce the twist to New Zeeland at a function in the Dunedin Town Hall, “The dance is very like a hula, but there is no shoulder movement at all,” she said. It could be done slowly, but most preferred a quick tempo. Miss Main learnt the twist first in London. and was later taught by Robert Wagner in Paris. "It was so popular that no-one did anything else.” she said. Miss Main was looking well and rested after her recent exhausting overseas tour, when she took part in the “Miss World” contest in London Since she returned to the Dominion she has been “trying to rest,” without much success, at her Auckland home.
