Little River recorded a convincing victory over Kaituna when the two leading teams met in the Banks Peninsula cricket sub-association’s competitions on Saturday. Kaituna batted first and made 132. but Little River passed this score with its first two batsmen still at the crease. For the winning team. D. Mason made 100 retired. Another good score was that of D. Masefield, 112 retired, for Le Bons. The consistent C. Mac Kay made another good score (71) for the same team. With a win over Akaroa, Le Bons moves into second place in the competition. The Le Bons off-spinner. P. Johnson, returned the day’s best bowling figures with eight wickets for 27 runs Scores:— Little River 185 for five (D. Mason 100 retired. K. Howarth 40 retired) beat Kaituna 132 (N Allen 18. E. Henderson 41, A. Gray 31; T. Templeton four for 40, J Mathias three for 51). Le Bons 251 (L. Ford 20 D. Masefield 112 retired. C. MacKay 71. L. Inwood 24; T. Haley six for 81) beat Akaroa 155 (T Haley 20 A. Smith 52. K. Haycock 15 not out, P. Price 23; P, Johnson eight for 27). United 166 for six declared (H Marshall 25. Paul Hoglund 29. Peter Hoglund 41. G Moore 34. P Fisher two for 32, R. Milne two for 52) beat Wainui 80 (M Wright 32. R Weir 17; R. Harris six for 39. Peter Hoglund three for 32) and 73 (R. Milne 17, P Fisher 15: R. Harris two for 21. Pau] Hoglund two for 14, G Taylor three for 23. G Moore two for 6) outright. Points after eight rounds are:—Little River 42. L* Bons 40. Kaituna 36, United 36, Wainui 24, Akaroa 14.
