HILLARY TO FLY HOME
Bad Weather In Alps (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 3. Sir Edmund Hillary will fly to Auckland tomorrow night a disappointed man. For nine days he and a party of geologists were camped on the Annette nlateau. in the Sealy range of the Southern Alps, but bad weather dogged their every move. Thev decided to return jesterday The party left their camp at 6 a.m. yesterday to walk to the Hermitage. During! the week-end. operations were begun from the Mueller hut Sir Zdmund Hillary was flown over the hut yesterday and supplies were droooed It was too windv to land, so he was taken back to the Hermita"e He set out early •ndav to tramo to the hut He is expected ..back at the Hermitage tomorrow morning Sneaking from the Hermitage yesterday. Sir Edmund Hillarv said the partv had experienced a lot of bad weather Heavy rain and 'now : 'a<j restricted activities. He admitted having conouered only "a few rn’ror Snmos” Sir Edmund Hillarv added ‘hat most of the time bad been spent Iving in tents and ‘rving to stott them from being blown away.
