SCHOOL CADET TRAINING

Special Courses At Burnham A course for secondary schoolboy cadets hoping to become regimental sergeant majors will be held at Burnham Military Camp from January 22 to February 2. This is the first time the course has been held at Burnham. Usually it is held at Waiouru, but with the introduction of the scheme for mrtional military training, the course has been transferred to Burnham. A total of 125 cadets from all over New Zealand will attend the course. There will be 50 cadets from the Northern Military District, 35 from the Central Military District and 40 from the Southern Military District. The course includes instruction in methods of training, drill to battalion level, map-reading weapon draining and ceremonial parades. Three other cadet courses will be held at Burnham during the school holidays. Under the command of Lieutenant Colonel W. T. Foley, commanding officer of area 11, more than 450 cadets will be at Burnham from December 16 to 22. The first course is for cadets trying to qualify as non-commissioned officers. Hifs will be from December 16 to 22. At the same time a course will be held for n.c.o.’s up to company sergeantmajor level. From December 18 to 21 a special course for armourer cadet officers will be held. Thirteen cadets will attend this course.
