HOWE SHIELD MATCHES

Length Restriction Considered The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association may recommend to the New Zealand Tennis Council that the length of Howe Shield singles matches be restricted. At present the girts play three sets, all advantage, with a player winning by two clear games after 5-all. The matter arose at a meeting of the association's executive committee last evening, when Mr M. C. Healey mentioned a three and a-half hour struggle between two young girls In a Howe Shield singles match at Wilding Park last Saturday. Fifteen-year-old Miss S. Mac Neill, of Canterbury, who played Miss J. Sadler, from the West Coast, had felt ill after the match. Mr Healey said. Both girls withdrew from doubles matches they were to have played later in the day.
