DURHAM STREET CROSSING

A.A.C. May Join Deputation The council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) will advise the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association it has seen a report that a deputation will wait upon the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) about the closure of the Durham street railway crossing and would like to send two members. This was decided at a meeting of the council last evening. Messrs F. W. Freeman and E. R. Casbolt were nominated to join the deputation if necessary.

Mr Casbolt said that if the crossing was closed about 2000 vehicles a day would be diverted on to the overbridge. “If the railways close it I say there should be a riot in Christchurch,” said Mr Freeman. He thought the council should write to the Minister of Transport.
