MEXICAN DISASTER

Death Toll Passes 300

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter— Copyright) MEXICO CITY, Nov. 18. The death toll in Mexico*.; southern Guerrero State from last week's cyclone “Tara” rose to more than 300 yesterday, as rescue workers moved into devastated areas. Hundreds were still said to be missing. Many of them, however, were thought to be among the 20.000 that evacuated flooded and mud-buried villages and towns. United Press International said. One Mexican newspaper said 130 died in the town of Nuxco alone. The town of 2500 inhabitants was reported totally destroyed. Another 191 were known dead in the Tecpan de Galerna area. Most of the casualties and damage so far have been reported from the area north of Acapuco—"Cost* Gr»nde” —and officials Mid they feared that possibly a greater toll may have been taken in the “Costa Chica” stretched to the south, “This is wors* than -the Belize disaster,” Acapulco City Council Chairman (Canute Nogueda Radilla) told the daily newspaper “Ovaclones."
