A WORLD APART
While Canterbury farmers have been watching their farms drying up under the influence of north-westerly winds and sun in the last two weeks. West Coast farmers have had water squelching under their boots. One place on the Coast—Stockton is reported to have had 37.92 inches of rain in four days last week—just a year and a half of rain for Canterbury. While the inches of rain that fell everywhere on the Coast last week halted cultivation, tractors were at work again by the middle of this week on free draining soils.
