Gty Council Rejects Request The City Council has rejected a request by the Christchurch Transport Board for a footbridge over the Avon river at Mcßratneys road In the Avondale area there was a pocket in the district where residents claimed they were unable to use the board’s services because there was no access across the river, the board said. The council's works committee has looked at the proposal. but found that to preserve the rowing course there would need to be a bridge span of 170 ft, and the cost would be about £BOOO.
