MISSION TO LEPERS
Appeal Short Of Target
Four weeks from the close of books, the Mission to Lepers is £17.000 short of the £102,000 it received last year.
However the Mission’s New Zealand secretary (the Rev M. H. Feist), said that gifts were still coming in and as there was usually an increase in the flow as the end of the year and Christmas approached, he was still hopeful of reaching the target. Canterbury’s support for the mission's appeal has been increasing steadily. This year’s figure of £2863 to date is more than £3OO above the 1960 amount.
So far £22,700 has been received in the postal appeal, compared with .£26.000 last year. However,' the appeal has still to be completed in some areas. While some forms of income, namely contributions for the support of individual patients and giving through local secretaries, had been healthy. Mr Feist said that income from salvage drives was much less than usual. This was because so many other bodies had begun such collections and also because of the low price given for textiles in the overseas markets.
