Negotiations For Sale
Negotiations for the sale of Magic Circle to Mr W. A. Grant, of Fairlie, were completed yesterday. The seven-year-old gelded son of Count Rendered and Brown Magic has entered the Riccarton stable of G. R. Pelling, who will eventually prepare him for a jumping career. Until now Magic Circle has done all of his racing for Mr Gilbert Grigg, president of the New Zealand Racing Conference. who paid 900gns for him as a yearling at the National Sales at Trentham in 1956.
Magic Circle, which . has been trained for Mr Grigg by I. McClure at Riccarton, did not start racing until he was four. He won two and was placed in three of nine races in his first season. But his five-year-old season was by far his best financially. He contested 17 races at five and gained four wins and five minor places worth £2675 Altogether hi« stake earnings to date amount to £3435. Last season Magic Circle contested four races end failed to reach a place in any of them. His best effort and only placing in nine starts this term was a second to Burgos in the J. F. Buchanan Memorial Handicap at Motukarara last month.
