VANDALISM IN PARKS
£lOO Damage
Serious damage had been done to lavatories in Fendalton Domain, Burnside Park, Riccarton Domain and Northcote Hall, said the chairman <Mr J. I. Colligan) to the Waimairi County Council on Thursday evening. “At Fendalton Domain and Norther, te Hall lavatory pedestals have been smashed to floor level. “In the Fendalion Park instance, it would appear that stones left in the conveniences had been taken to the park for the purpose of marking the lavatories. “At Bumside Park, shots from a high-powered air gun or pistol had been fired through a pedestal causing such damage as to make replacement necessary. Other damage includes the wrenching of pipes from fittings. "In these instances, up to £lOO is involved,” Cr. Colligan said. Cr. A. A. Adcock said at the previous council meeting he had reported instances of play equipment in children’s playgrounds being smashed by vandals. The council noted an increase in penalties for acts of vandalism in the new Crimes Bill.
