CLEARING SYSTEM
Plan Deferred, Not Rejected (NJ!. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. The introduction of the postal clearing system had been deferred so it could be given further consideration, the Postmaster-General, Mr Kinsella, told the House of Representatives today. "We haven't turned it down,” he said. Mr Kinsella was answering questions by Mr Moohan (Opposition, Petone) during discussion of the Post Office estimates. Mr Moohan wanted to know what the Government was doing to introduce the postal clearing scheme authorised by an act passed last year. The scheme provided for the public to pay accounts through the Past Office. Mr Kinsella said Post Office and Treasury officials had examined similar schemes overseas and their report showed that losses in the initial stages of the scheme's operation would be greater than anticipated. The introduction of the scheme would also require the expansion of Post Office buildings and accounting facilities. Mr Kinsella said.
