TUBERCULOSIS APPEAL
£BO7 Collected By 230 Persons Eight hundred and seven pounds was collected by 230 persons up to 6 p.m. in the Canterbury and West Coast Tuberculosis Association's street day appeal yesterday. Donations from business firms totalled about £4O. The final figures will not be available until Monday afternoon, when the proceeds from 40 boxes to be returned after the week-end have been counted. The president of the association (Mr C. A. Rattray) said the final amount was not expected to reach last year’s total of between £lOOO and £llOO. This was in no way due to lack of public response. "The money was there for the asking," said Mr Rattray. "In the space of two hours a husband and wife team collected £42. But there were just not enough collectors available to man the boxes.” Mr Rattray expects this year’s total to reach about £950.
