Lown Tennis TO REMAIN AMATEUR

Emerson And Laver

The American professional tennis promoter J. Kramer, said before he left Australia recently that negotiations with R. Laver and R. Emerson "were definitely off.” Kramer had offered the players a minimum of £17.000 for three years, with nine months’ tennis each year, but both Laver and Emerson were anxious to play at the Wimbledon championships next year.

Kramer considers that the amateur game is on the upswing, and the possibility of open tournaments in Australia had become brighter since the change in outlodk of amateur tennis leaders.
