PRESBYTERIAN MINISTERS

Shortage Of 90 Anticipated

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 18. A shortage of 90 ministers during the next six years is anticipated by the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. This was revealed today to the Presbyterian General Assembly by the sessional committee on ministerial manpower and related matters. The anticipated requirements during the next six years is 226 ministers. There will be 49 ministerial vacancies in February, 1962, after the licentiates have taken over parishes. The committee presented a comprehensive report to the assembly on the manpower problem. Extensive proposals to meet the situation were approved by the assembly. These included the setting up of a special committee for the recruitment of candidates to the ministry. Concerning men of the 5055age group it was agreed that the home ministry committee should be empowered to seek suitable men with a view to their employment full-time. Married men 35 and over will be encouraged to enter the ministry through the modification- of the student regulations governing extra-mural study.
